Sacred Heart is not receiving any new marriage or matrimonial requests at the moment, as it is transitioning into a new parish family under the leadership of one new pastor and one new parochial vicar. If you are interested in marriage or wedding in the church, please check with either the new pastor or parochial vicar once they have begun their new roles, after July 1, 2024. Thank you!
What is Matrimony?
The Catholic Church sees marriage as a sacrament for the baptized, or as a sacred celebration for a marriage that involves an unbaptized person. In either case, it is a lifelong commitment. One of the ways we value and honor this sacrament is by taking time to help couples prepare. Sacred Heart provides marriage preparation for couples, whether the wedding takes place in our church or somewhere else. We ask couples to participate in a marriage preparation program. You will be given information about the options for these programs at your initial interview with the priest of the parish. In addition, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive Pre-Marriage Inventory or questionnaire. The fee for Marriage Preparation is $300 for registered parishioners; $400 for non-parishioners (non-refundable), which includes all in-person meetings with the priest, relevant forms, and preparation of marriage documents. Couples who would like to get married at Sacred Heart of Jesus should begin the planning of this major milestone as soon as possible. Marriage preparation or Pre-Cana is mandatory in the Cathollc Chruch. Therefore, one of the first things couples should do is request Marriage Preparation meetings with a priest here at Sacred Heart.
IMPORTANT: If you belong to another parish, you must have written permission from that church to get married at Sacred Heart and our parish office must receive it BEFORE the wedding can be held here.
In addition, Inquiries about getting married at Sacred Heart and marriage preparation meetings should be made a minimum of six months before the wedding.
